The goal of this project was to develope a theme based deck of playing cards and box for packaging. The theme of the playing cards is the mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. This holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have died. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars and honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods of the departed.
The cards aim to have a bittersweet tone and are meant to represent and honor the dead. They achieve this by using a cloudy, mysterious texture along with high contrast colors. They also highlight the sugarskull, which is the base for each face card and directly tie in Dia de los Muertos traditions.
